How long do people book a maternity nurse for?

Depending on famili’s needs and personal circumstances, maternity nurses are usually booked for between 6 - 12 weeks.  However it could be as little 2 weeks or as many as 6 months. Maternity nurses usually work 24 hours a day with a 4 hour break, they tend to work 4-6 days a week.

What is the role of a maternity nurse?

The role of the maternity nurse is to help and support families in the first weeks and months of their new baby’s life, helping mothers to fully recuperate and recover from their pregnancy and birth.  They can offer support and guidance for all aspects of feeding, sleeping and developmental milestones associated with the baby. They are generally responsible for nursery duties relating to the baby.  This includes keeping the nursery tidy, washing and ironing of the baby’s laundry, and keeping feeding equipment clean and sterilised.

When is it best to book a maternity nurse?

Maternity nurses tend to get booked up quickly, so it is best to book as soon as you can.  Dates can be tentatively booked in and then firmed up once the 12 week scan has taken place.
